In September, Wheeler was named an overall Hartford Courant 2024 Top Workplace for the eighth time, and received additional recognition for its managers. In July, Wheeler was named a national Top Workplace in the healthcare industry.

"Our teams make us what we are," said Sabrina Trocchi, PhD, MPA, Wheeler's president and chief executive officer. "It's rewarding to see in the Top Workplace survey that my colleagues say they value our investment in their development and, ultimately, in providing the best care for everyone we serve by having the best-trained staff. It's an honor to lead this amazing organization."

  • The woman-led Top Workplace award celebrates outstanding organizations whose most senior leader is a woman. These leaders have fostered and built stand-out workplace cultures that perform.
  • The professional development Top Workplace award celebrates organizations that focus on developing their employees' careers and enable them to grow professionally.

Top Workplace awards are based solely on employee feedback gathered through a third-party survey administered by employee engagement technology partner Energage LLC. The survey uniquely measures the employee experience and its component themes, including employees feeling respected and supported, enabled to grow, empowered to execute, and more.

Approximately 400 Wheeler employees across the state completed the survey in the spring. Among the highlights of Wheeler’s results:

  • “My Job Makes Me Feel Like I Am Part of Something Meaningful”
Wheeler: 86% of surveyed employees agreed.
The national health care benchmark was 81%.

  • “My Manager Helps Me Grow”
Wheeler: 85% of surveyed employees agreed.
The national health care benchmark was 74%.

  • “Wheeler Encourages Different Points of View”
Wheeler: 74% of surveyed employees agreed.
The national health care benchmark was 66%.
