"When you are engaging with someone in behavioral health services and primary care, and hunger is on their mind, you can't work  . . . in other areas before addressing those needs."

Wheeler President and CEO, Sabrina Trocchi, PhD, MPA, discussed how the fund works and how it’s making a difference for individuals and families. The story also highlighted how this fund is supported by the community, including donors and sponsors of the Wheeler Golf Classic and employees from Mott Corporation who, since 2016, have served as volunteer Health Ambassadors and have helped to organize and package basic needs items.

Wheeler's Basic Needs Fund addresses environmental and social factors that interfere with health and well-being, but which are not addressed by other means of funding. The fund allows Wheeler to address environmental conditions that might lead to poor health outcomes.

Since the fund’s inception in 2018, more than 250 donors have helped to serve nearly 8,400 individuals.
