Wheeler’s Hartford Community Health Center Was Backdrop for CT Baby Bonds Announcement
Yesterday, Wheeler’s Hartford community health center provided a welcoming setting for Connecticut State Treasurer Erick Russell’s announcement of a partnership with the Community Health Center Association of Connecticut to support the first-in-the-nation CT Baby Bonds program.
More than 40 people attended to learn more about how providers at 16 member health centers, including Wheeler, will start discussing the program with families of eligible participants and share related printed materials. Connecticut Governor Ned Lamont, Hartford Mayor Arunan Arulampalam, Wheeler leadership, providers, and a new mother whose child will benefit from the initiative, took part in the formal program.
“Every day, community providers like Wheeler see how systemic poverty affects the health outcomes of so many people we serve,” said Sabrina Trocchi, PhD, MPA, president and chief executive officer, Wheeler Health. “Our work ultimately is to provide hope for a better tomorrow, and Baby Bonds are an innovative approach to do just that.”
