PRE-TRIAL IMPAIRED DRIVING INTERVENTION PROGRAM (PIDIP)
PRE-TRIAL DRUG INTERVENTION AND COMMUNITY SERVICE PROGRAM (PDICSP)
Wheeler’s Pre-Trial Intervention Program (PTIP) serves individuals, ages 18+, arrested for driving/boating while intoxicated or possession of drugs or drug paraphernalia. The program includes assessment and assignment to either a 12-week psycho-educational group or treatment.
The program is designed to educate participants about the:
- Risks of operating a motor vehicle or boat while under the influence
- Physiological/psychological effects of substances
- Impact of substance use on social functioning
- Risk factors for continued use
- Substance use disease process
- Skill building techniques to reduce recidivism
- Opportunity and/or need for more intensive treatment
PTIP includes various exercises to help participants to:
- Increase their self-evaluation and skill practice
- Increase understanding of substances and use, including patterns and choices
- Decrease the risk of substance-related problems, including re-offending
This program serves adults in:
Greater Waterbury, Bristol, Greater New Britain, and statewide.
Your Starting Point: Individuals in this program are referred by the Probation, Parole, or Family Relations Unit of the State of Connecticut Judicial Branch, Court Support Services Division.
